One of the top reasons that so many tourists visit Tahiti is the beaches, sand, and clear blue waters. Although many of the island's beaches have volcanic sand, this is one of the few beaches on the island that dazzles with white sand. The water is very clear in this area and you can see right to the bottom. It is about 40 miles southeast of the island's capital Papeete and you will need to drive carefully to reach there.
Fautaua Waterfall is a beautiful stunning waterfall on the island, which swells up with extraordinary views when it rains. The water cascades into a large pool at the bottom. Unfortunately, to get there you must embark on a fairly difficult hike, which is usually best done with a guide or an experienced group. But it is well worth the trip as most will attest.
Papenoo Beach is located in a small village called Papenoo just a few miles from the island's capital and gives an amazing glimpse into the island's volcanic history. The Punaauai Beach showcases the island's characteristic volcanic sands which it has become well known for. It's also a great alternative from the more populated La Plage de Maui on Tahiti. You may have to compete for some beach space with the island's local surfers, but this can be a nice getaway.
Papeete is the capital city of Tahiti and where a lot of the local activities are located. It also happens to be the capital of the rest of French Polynesia. You'll find plentiful opportunities for beaches, nightlife, shopping, and local seafood and culinary destinations here, as well as local markets with souvenirs, clothing, handmade items and more.
This is a beach which is located on the southern coast of Papara and has volcanic black sands, palm trees and is known for being large and wide, offering a lot of room to enjoy the beach, lay out or even swim. It's known for having great swimming conditions and you will also see surfers here. Step out on this beach to enjoy the unique sand and beautiful waves.
Moorea is the sister island of Tahiti and it is much more rugged yet well worth the quick trip. There are beautiful ATV tours to enjoy the varied lush local terrain and you can also take hikes to the top of the cliffs and mountains for some extraordinary views. Enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling at the lagoonarium as well as the Moorea Dolphin Center where there are plentiful marine mammals to check out. Getting to the island is a quick ferry trip from the terminal at Papeete and a round trip costs around $28 or 3,000 French Polynesian francs. You can get around the island by bus or taxi once you arrive.
The Museum of Tahiti and her islands is dedicated to educating the visitors and locals about the unique history of the archipelago. Four sections of the museum cover different aspects including natural history, geography, the impact of colonization, and natural wonders. There are also beautiful beaches right outside of the museum to explore when you get bored and other nearby attractions.
Faarumi Waterfalls is located in Tiarei, a village on the island, and it requires a quick hike through the forest to reach. There are three waterfalls in total, the first is known as Vaimahutu, and the second (Haamarere Iti) and third (Haamarere Rahi) take an additional hike of about 20 minutes to reach. The falls are beautiful and a bit easier to access than some of the other destinations on the island. The falls are about a 30-minute drive from Papeete and sit along the northern coast of the island.
As mentioned previously the summer months are between November through April and can be very hot and humid, while the winter months between May and October are much less humid with more favorable temperatures.
Tahiti is the largest in a chain of islands in French Polynesia and sits in the South Pacific. It is a dream destination for many travelers. Getting there by sea is an adventure in itself. Most cruise ships set course for Papeete, the capital, which hosts the main port of the islands. This port is well-equipped to welcome international cruise liners, offering travelers their first glimpse of the island's natural beauty right from the deck of the ship.
The deep-water port accommodates the vessels, ensuring a seamless docking process. As travelers disembark, they find themselves just a short walk or drive from central Papeete, where they can immediately begin soaking up the local culture and breathtaking scenery that define this island paradise.
Cruising to Tahiti is a dreamy experience, and selecting the right time for your cruise is essential to make the most of your tropical getaway. Tahiti, known for its warm weather year-round, offers different experiences across its seasons, each with its unique charm.
The dry season, from May to October, is often considered the best time for a Tahiti cruise. During these months, cruising guests can enjoy average temperatures around a comfortable 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit). This season is perfect for those looking to lounge on the beaches, explore the islands, and indulge in water activities like snorkeling and diving. Cruising in Tahiti during the dry season means experiencing the island's beauty with less likelihood of rain disrupting your plans.
On the other hand, the wet season, from November to April, brings more humidity and rain to Tahiti, which nurtures the island's lush flora. While showers during this period can be brief, they are often heavy, especially in December and January. However, cruising in Tahiti during the wet season has its perks: the island is less crowded, allowing for a more intimate experience with nature and local culture. This season often sees fewer tourists, potentially lower prices, and the opportunity to partake in local festivals like Heiva I Tahiti, held in July, a vibrant celebration of Polynesian culture and dance. Cruising during the wet season offers a different perspective of Tahiti, showcasing the island's spectacular bloom and vibrant cultural life.
Whether you choose the dry season for its idyllic beach weather or the wet season for its lush landscapes and cultural festivities, cruising in Tahiti promises an unforgettable experience. Each season brings its unique appeal, ensuring that Tahiti remains a captivating destination for cruising any time of the year.
Choosing a cruise to Tahiti is picking the promise of an unforgettable journey. It's about effortlessly enjoying what could take days or weeks to plan on your own. Cruises offer a comprehensive package: accommodation, transport, food, entertainment, and sometimes even flights, all rolled into one. It's value for your money and time, especially when you're waking up in a new paradise every day.
Beyond the practicalities, a cruise to Tahiti brings exclusive benefits. Imagine private lagoon tours, beachfront access only available to cruise passengers, and organized shore excursions that immerse you in the local culture and wilderness. Moreover, there's the undeniable luxury of open-deck dining with panoramic ocean views, serene spa services, and the convenience of unpacking just once while your floating hotel whisks you from one spectacular island to the next.
In essence, a Tahitian cruise isn't just travel; it's an experience curated for discovery, ease, and the indelible joy of exploring the heart of French Polynesia.
Get ready to treat your taste buds on your Tahiti cruise because the local cuisine is a delight! Influenced by French, Asian, and traditional Polynesian flavors, the dishes here are all about fresh seafood, fruits, and vegetables.
One must-try is the classic 'Poisson Cru,' raw tuna marinated in zesty lime juice and soaked in coconut milk. If you're into soups, 'Firi Firi' is a coconut-infused doughnut that pairs perfectly with your morning coffee. For a refreshing treat, sample some 'Pape haari,' this local fruit juice blends unique flavors you won't find anywhere else.
Don't miss the 'Roulottes' in Papeete, the capital city. These food trucks set up shop in the evenings, offering everything from French crepes to Chinese stir-fries and, of course, local specialties. Eating here is not just about the food; it's an authentic slice of Tahitian life.
Plus, they're easy on the wallet without skimping on portions. For an upscale evening, waterfront restaurants in resorts offer gourmet menus with stunning views, making for an unforgettable dining experience.
The key to Tahitian cuisine is its simplicity, allowing natural flavors to tantalize your palate and leave you craving more!
Diving into Tahitian culture adds incredible depth to your cruise journey. The islands hum with traditions that stretch back centuries, alive in the music, dance, and artistry you'll encounter.
The 'ote'a is something you can't miss. It's a traditional dance where performers dressed in colorful attire move to the rapid rhythm of drums. These dances often tell a story, and understanding the tale behind each performance adds a rich layer to the experience.
Art thrives here, from intricate wooden carvings and symbolic tattoos to the delicate shell leis. Each piece holds a story of heritage and pride. Make time for the local markets; you'll find handcrafted goods that make memorable keepsakes.
Festivals? You're in for a treat. The Heiva i Tahiti, a vibrant festival held in July, is a spectacular showcase of Polynesian culture. Expect spellbinding dance performances, sports competitions, and floats adorned with bright, fragrant flowers.
Remember, respect for tradition is vital. Participate in cultural events, listen to their stories, and immerse yourself in the communal spirit. It's not just about seeing the culture; it's about experiencing a way of life.
Who wouldn't want to experience the magic of Tahiti? From its picture-perfect beaches to the rhythms of traditional dances, this destination promises a complete escape from the everyday hustle. Imagine waking up, and your biggest problem is choosing between snorkeling in crystal-clear waters or relaxing on the soft sand, coconut drink in hand.
A cruise isn't just a hassle-free way to jump from one stunning island to the next; it's your ticket to stress-free planning. It's all the adventure with none of the logistical nightmares, as your itinerary, accommodations, and meals are sorted. You get to explore hidden gems of the Pacific, connect with the vibrant culture, and indulge in local flavors, all rolled into one journey.
So, what's holding you back? Opportunities for pure relaxation, cultural immersion, and breathtaking natural beauty await. It's more than a trip; it's an experience that'll etch into your memory. It's time to set sail towards the horizon. Tahiti is calling!

Typically cruise packages will include room, board, entertainment, WiFi, an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages package, and other amenities that vary based on the package that you pick.
