Most of the hotels had no or very weak air conditioning, but the windows would open to allow airflow. Laundry service was unavailable in the hotels with two-night stays, as we were there on a weekend, and the laundry mats were out of order. Please advise people to wear all-leather, water-resistant shoes and raincoats; it rains every day. The weather varied between warm, humid, and cool rain in May, so different-weight coats were required. The trip is structured so there is not a lot of time to explore the cities, but it covers a lot of areas so it is necessary to keep moving. I pre-paid the gratuity for the general trip director and the bus driver, but we did need additional cash to tip the local specialist tour guide at a couple of City stops. The tour director, and the bus driver, were excellent and made the trip easy, educational, and enjoyable. The director arranged the time of the activities so we could enjoy the Olympic torch ceremony at one of our stops, and our driver did an amazing job backing the bus into a very narrow street to park! Our director also arranged for an early Paris boat ride due to the weather and high water levels in the river on our last day which was appreciated. I enjoyed the trip very much.

I have mixed feeling about this trip. It went to all the places noted, the guide was very professional, the bus was new and well equipped. However,I would summarize the trip as trying to do too much in too short a time. We often experienced days when we stoped at a place (Aix, Arles, Biarritz were examples) where after a quick orientation, we had 1 1/2 hours to explore and get something to eat. That was WAY too short a time to see a place. After several days of this with several stops, you could start to see the fatigue setting in. The best example of this was, according to the guide, that we traveled 4000 kms in a bus in 12 days!! Some possible solutions are 1) break it into 2 trips. A northern France version and a southern version, each say 10 days. 2) eliminate some of the stops so that you can get a better feel of where you DID visit. 3) Make some of the stops where you will visit the location first thing in the following morning. Mont Saint Michel being an obvious example.
